Your knees are your greatest asset when you are an athlete. Why trust your care to anyone else except sports specialists whose sole focus is knee conditions? Plus, you can count on the experience of the only academic health system in the Northeast involved in the national collaborative on knee replacement with other healthcare leaders like the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic. We’re leaders setting best practice guidelines for orthopaedists to follow across the U.S.
Knee Surgery Options to Get You Back in Action
Our team of surgeons and physical therapists are determined to get you back to your performance level as quickly as possible. Among the most common knee problems we see are torn ACLs (anterior cruciate ligament). Last year along we treated well over 300 patients for this one condition. We’ll give you the information you need to choose the best option for your reconstruction surgery and a proven physical therapy protocol that gets you back on your feet.
Our team also offers a full range of arthroscopic options to treat your knee pain, fix a torn meniscus, or reconstruct a ligament. Arthroscopic procedures generally result in smaller scars, less pain, and a shorter recovery time. Of course, knee replacement options are also available from computer-assisted knee surgery to partial knee replacement to total knee replacement. Our Keene and Lebanon locations also offer autologous chondrocyte implantation where cartilage cells are taken from the knee, grown in a lab until millions of cells have multiplied, and then are implanted into the area of cartilage damage in your knee.
A Fast Recovery is Our Goal
We have studied countless patient cases to determine the most appropriate path of care for knee injuries such as ACL reconstruction and knee replacement. Our approach is evidence-based, meaning that we only use the techniques that prove to be successful in a large number of our patients. Plus, we work with physical therapists to provide a comprehensive recovery schedule meant to get you back to your former performance level, sometimes even better.

Better Than Before Surgery
Dr. Carr was the right surgeon for me. He described all possible treatment options, talked with me about outcomes and how many ACL surgeries he's performed. I credit Steve Vincente, my physical therapist, in getting me on the road to recovery. His positive energy made all the difference. I am happy to say my knee is not only as good as it was before, it's better.Hannah Kearney / 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist and World Champion freestyle skier
No Big Deal
The most surprising thing about having a complete hip replacement was that it really wasn't a big deal. I'd say all through the journey, from surgery to recovery, you've got to remember it takes some effort. There is some discomfort, but it was well worth it and I won't hesitate again to have my right one done.Ted Davis / Total Hip Patient
What Surprised Me the Most
I didn't know I could do what I can do now and that's what surprised me the most. At my age and with the injuries I had, I thought I was done. Being able to sit straight up is a big deal. Being able to nod my head, twist it side-to-side...that's a really, really big deal. I wasn't able to do those things when I got here.Derek Hampton / Functional Restoration Program graduate
Achieving Your Goals
Now I know I can go out and rip turns and feel awesome and feel completely normal again. I felt like the sports medicine department can relate to you...and help you achieve the goals that you want to get back to, and my goals were to get back into ski racing and back to lacrosse, and I've done that thus far.Gunnar / ACL Repair Surgery
